The first-ever presidential visit to Mikov, which took place as part of President-elect Petr Pavel's tour of the Ústí nad Labem region, was an opportunity to acquaint the future head of state with both the production programme of the largest Czech cutlery company and the challenges facing the industry in the Šluknov foothills.

"Even though our company produces all the knife assortment, the general showed the greatest interest in knives and cold weapons related to the army," said the company's communications director Bedřich Jetelina. "In the first place, it was UTON - the paratrooper knife, which was part of his armoury when he was still a platoon commander, but of course also army sabres and knives from Project War Veteran dedicated to foreign army missions."

After getting acquainted with the company's product range, Petr Pavel appreciated the fact that the company has already received over CZK 350,000 from the War Veteran Project for the Military Solidarity Fund, which he personally helped to establish. In his opinion, this confirms the viability and meaningfulness of helping people who have lost loved ones or lost their health while serving their country.

During a tour of Mikov's operations, Petr Pavel then saw the pressing and sharpening of Predator and Rybička knife blades, the continuous hardening furnace and the tool room, where, in addition to Pocket knives, the machining centres also produce parts of the bayonet for the BREN 2 automatic rifle, which Mikov manufactures under licence from the Colt CZ Group.

After a tour of the company and a group photo with the employees, Petr Pavel left for a meeting with citizens in Česká Kamenice.
