We had the national championship in the tourist race

On the second Saturday and Sunday of June (8th and 9th) the National Championship in Hiking Race took place in Mikulášovice, which Mikov supported. Although the hiking race sounds like it would be a walk, the opposite is true. In fact, it is a demanding sport that requires endurance, speed, strength and knowledge.

It's actually a run in the countryside on a course of around 4 kilometres. Before reaching the finish line, the runner has to complete several tasks. In the first place, there are tasks that require physical fitness, such as crossing a rope bridge, throwing to a target or crawling. But there are also skill stations along the route, which include knot tying, distance estimation or running on an azimuth. And competitors will also encounter purely knowledge-based tasks - identifying plants or hiking signs.

Since Mikov offers pocket knives suitable for hiking, outdoor knives and military knives on the Czech market, support for such a sport is directly offered. But there are more reasons to help. Of all the participating towns, Mikulášovice is probably the smallest. Yet they have won 3 national championship titles and many other "on the box" placements. This is no coincidence. It is the result of years and years of systematic work with children and youth. And supporting the local community with an emphasis on sport and youth involvement is a priority for Mikov.

Hosting a national championship in Mikulášovice, even in a relatively small sport, is not easy. It takes hours and days of work by dozens of volunteers. Thanks to them, all participants of the championship went home happy. And Mikov packed them one special little fish just for them. It will be a memory and maybe even a motivation for them to come back sometime and this time in peace, without the stress of the race, to see our beautiful nature and maybe even the Museum of Cutlery Tradition with a specialized Mikov knife shop.
