Knives after the holiday

The holidays are halfway over, many of us have already finished our holidays, some of us are still preparing for them. And holidays spent actively in nature are usually the time when we make good use of our outdoor and hunting knives. Mikov offers a wide range of products in these knife categories. But to make sure our knives last as long as possible, we should take a few simple steps when we get home.

While we certainly cleaned the knife after each use while on vacation, it's a good idea to do a good cleaning when we return using a soft brush and warm, soapy water. And for the knives we used for food, we can also use a mild disinfectant.

Of course, the cleaning must be followed by a thorough drying. It is especially important to dry the joints and moving parts where moisture can get trapped. For drying, we can use a dry and soft cloth or let the knife air dry. After drying, apply a thin layer of oil to the blade and moving parts of the knife. Mineral oil or special knife oil is ideal for this purpose, as it protects the blade from corrosion and keeps the moving parts functional. If the knife has a wooden handle (Mikov uses them on Hiker knives ) or an antler handle (typically on Mikov hunting knives),we can lightly treat it with the appropriate oil to keep it moisturized and crack-free.

The knives are then stored in a dry and well-ventilated place to prevent corrosion. Avoid damp areas such as cellars or bathrooms. If you have a sheath for your knife, use it for storage as well, it protects the knife from dust and mechanical damage.

If we want to store the Mikov Predator knife for a longer period of time , it is a good idea to leave it in an open state so that the pen that drives the opening mechanism is not stressed for a long time.

After a few weeks it is worth checking the knives. We may have overlooked a spot during cleaning and preservation, and a rust stain could appear on the knife. It is always easier to resolve this annoyance at the beginning.
